Incredibly Thankful

Dear Third Graders,

I continue to be very thankful for working with such a wonderful group of learners. I love your enthusiasm for learning, your patience with me acclimating to calling a group of students third graders NOT first, and all your unique qualities.

Before we left for break, we shared our published paragraphs! We will be using what we learned in this unit to help us work on our severe weather report. The date and time will be posted in our December Newsletter!

In geography, we are learning about land and water formations. We worked in small groups to sort pictures and discuss the new vocabulary.

In science, we are learning about the water cycle. Here we are observing to process in small groups.  It was very exciting.

PJ Day

Dear Third Graders,

We sure know how to rock PJ day!

We also celebrated two November Birthdays last week!!

In reading, we are focusing on reading informational texts. Right now, we are working on identifying the main idea and the supporting details. We worked in buddies using our "Boxes and Bullets" strategy to take notes.

In social studies, we continue to learn about geography and different types of maps. We have zoomed in on physical, political, climate, and resource (product) maps.  We looked through an atlas with a buddy to find some of these maps and then shared with the class.

Lastly, our Friday Challenge was working with our group to figure out the unknown BIG word...

FRIENDSHIP

We then discussed how we can show friendship.

Wow, that was a busy week!

Bear Hugs,

Involve me, I understand

Dear Third Graders,

There is a Chinese Proverb that states,

Tell me, I forget.
Show me, I remember.
Involve me, I understand.

I saw so much learning at the fair on Thursday! I was inspired and enjoyed learning about all the topics  presented.  Here are some highlights...

November Fun

Dear Third Graders,

I learned a ton about dental health from our visit from Dr. DeLuke. I liked hearing how your are changing your habits based on what we learned last week.

Our birthday girl got to help Mr. DeLuke and we got to celebrate her big day in class!

We ended the week with our... FRIDAY CHALLENGE!  This week, we had to make a tower with red solo cups that matched mine. The catch, you couldn't touch the cup with any of your body parts!  Groups were given string tied to a rubber band and two popsicle sticks.  The kids worked hard at being persistent and resilient.

(I missed a few groups with photos. I was also taking video that we use to reflect on our great strategies so some groups have video and not a picture.  This time gets super busy so I'm not the best at snapping pictures!)

This also happened this week!!!

Bear Hugs,
