Chicks Galore!!

Dear First Graders,

We have had a busy week!

Sophie's mom came and shared her expertise on chick development!
We even got to see inside the eggs.

Davis' grandmother came and shared a story called The Perfect Nest. She made each of us our very own chicken that lays and egg with a chick inside!!

I loved the names you came up with!  TieDye Chipmunk, Pecker, Midnight, Goldie, Oreo and Tiny!

Hatching Day

Dear First Graders,

Some of our chicks have had a head start and may be out of their eggs when we arrive on Monday!  Cora was my helper this weekend and we made sure to keep a close eye on our incubator.  Mr. Jefts is even making a late night run tonight to check on one of our chicks that was trying to get out when I stopped in at 7pm.

A little video of one of our chicks trying to get out!  You can see the egg tooth.

Niska Day

Dear First Graders,

It was so nice to see so many of you on Niska Day!! Cora loved watching the parade and riding on the pony.  We checked on our eggs around 8pm and no action yet!  We will keep you posted.

Wonderful Week

Dear First Graders,

This week seemed to fly by!!!  Here are some highlights...

A birthday celebration and a band, orchestra and chorus assembly.

A mystery reader and a friend sharing her clock creation (a good reminder that we all should have an analog clock at home so we can practice telling time to the hour and half hour).

We all enjoyed The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak. We wanted to let you know that this would be a great book to add to our home collection or to borrow from the library.

Don't forget our writing celebration and chick meet and greet Wednesday, May 25th at 1:20.

Next week is going to be packed... between chicks hatching, special guests, our writing celebration and a mystery reader it will truly fly by!

Hope to see you at the parade!  My girls and I will be watching a little down from the CoOp.

Smoothie Delight

Dear First Graders,

Our first day at the smoothie club was a big hit! We all had the opportunity to try a small cup of the smoothie. If we liked it, we could have a 4 oz cup for free.  There were also 8 oz cups to buy for $2. The ladies are always accepting donations to help replenish the supplies. Yummy!

Today, we enjoyed a mystery reader today too.  So much fun!

Take me out to the ball game!

Dear First Graders,

I enjoyed seeing all your sports outfits and hearing about the sports you enjoy playing!  Here are some snap shots.

We also enjoyed our visit from Mr. Smith's fourth grade class! They pitched product ideas to see what we might be interested in buying or not. I cannot wait to see what the fourth graders end up producing... will it be the rainbow bath salts, rock pets, mine craft cups or one of the other great ideas!

Monday we will candle our eggs and begin our Money unit!

Egg Day!

Dear First Graders,

What a great way to come back from break with two birthday celebrations and the arrival of our chick eggs!

Share with mom and dad about what you observed about our eggs!  Here are our goals for this unit:

I can..
1.  describe a life cycle.
2. describe the changes that occur during a life cycle.
3.  explain how life cycles are the same and different.

Lots of mail and information coming home today! We are starting our money unit Monday, so please send in the container of money (note came home today, also in our May newsletter).  Also check the special events coming up on the right of the screen. I will be updating this more as we solidify activities.
