Goodbye, Good luck!

Dear First Graders,

Today we celebrated a friend's birthday!

We also said goodbye and good luck to two of our close friends.  We will miss them terribly, but we know that they will soar in their new school.

Learning Fair

Dear First Graders,

Boy did I learn a lot at the learning fair.  Cora and Hazel came with me and we were amazed at all the projects. I was happy to see that not only did we have a lot of kids in our class that made a project, but also a lot of friends who came to learn!

Happy 120 Days of School

Dear First Graders,

I had a blast celebrating the 120th day of school with you! We did so many fun activities.

We practiced hopping our way to 120 by counting by 5's and 10's!

In centers, we made 120 colored dots, wrote 120 words, played race to 120 with buddies, did 120 mystery pictures... and more!!

I am looking forward to seeing your projects at the learning fair! Let the learning continue!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Dear Class,

I can't believe the leprechaun came to our class and made a mess of our room!  I forgot to upload the pictures from the I-pad at school so I will add those early this week!

I enjoyed sharing my favorite St. Patrick's day story with you! It had a great lesson about how friends are worth more then gold!  In reading, we are going to be zooming in how readers notice the lessons in their books by paying attention to what the characters learns when a problem gets solved.

Here are my lucky leprechauns!

Bear Hugs,

Crazy Hair Day

Dear First Graders,

I was bummed to miss crazy hair day! No one had crazy hair at the district office, but Mrs. Young took some pictures of the great hair!

On Wednesday, Nick Bruel came to visit Rosendale.  He is the author of the Bad Kitty series. He shared how he comes up with ideas for his books. First, he comes up with the titles of his books and then he asks himself lots of questions to get the story going. We are going to have to try this when we are writing.

Parents: We are looking for a mystery reader March 28th and the Wednesdays in April from 8:30-8:45. Let me know if you are interested.

Happy Birthday Dr. Suess

Dear First Graders,

I hope you had fun celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday today! We learned a lot about Dr. Seuss and his style of writing. We also enjoyed a few of his stories and had some time to explore other stories by this amazing author.  I'm still shocked that I never noticed that he makes all the eyes of his characters in a U shape!!

It was also fun turning you all into Thing 1 and Thing 2!

The fun didn't stop there! We also had an amazing performance by the Bridge Arts Ensemble. Check out their webpage here: http://www.bridgeartsensemble.org   We will be writing a review tomorrow.  Have you sent back your homework for our next writing unit!
