Egg Day!

Dear First Graders,

Today we got to celebrate our friend's 7th birthday with some yummy cupcakes!

It was also EGG day! You did a great job observing our 18 eggs.

Don't be late tomorrow, since we will put the eggs into the incubator first thing! On Friday, we learned all about how to incubator keeps the eggs warm and the different parts. I still can't believe no one would volunteer to sit on the eggs for the next 21 days straight?!?!

We noticed that our eggs were different sizes.   That got some of us wondering... do little chicks hatch from little eggs? Are the chicks that hatch from he bigger eggs the biggest chicks?

We also noticed all the different colors!
Boy do we think like scientists... and we kept on wondering! Do certain color eggs hatch certain kinds of chicks? Does a chicken lay all different color eggs or just one color? Why are chicken eggs different colors?

Keep up the great reading. This weekend, we read more than 350 minutes as a class. WOW!! I've been very impressed with how some of us are building our stamina to read for longer periods of time. Our bus is nearing the finish line!

Beautification Day

Dear First Graders,

Beautification Day was a great way to end our week! We managed to have the sun come out and bundled up for some fun learning!

We painted our kindness rocks that will be displayed around our school!

We learned about Solar Energy and made bracelets with UV beads!  We also talked about circuits and made a circuit as a class.  Tell your parents what happened when our circuit was complete!

Lastly, we planted flowers outside our classroom (hopefully they will survive this COLD spring).

    Have a great weekend!

Spring?

Dear First Graders,

Spring might not have arrived, but we sure came back from Spring break ready to learn! We are moving the bus at a quick pace (great reading at home!).

We also celebrated 2 birthday's so far this week!!

It's time to learn about time!

Our standard is to be able to tell time to the hour and half hour.

Go on a scavenger hunt around your house and see if you can find all the digital and analog clocks in your house.  You may discover that you don't have an analog clock (one with numbers and hands!).  I highly recommend buying one and hanging in a place where it can be used daily.

We are doing a great job telling time to the hour. Keep talking with mom and dad about what activities are morning (a.m) and what activities are afternoon (p.m.) activities.  Here is a fun website to try your skills at click here.  The other concept that is tricky is does an activity take an hour or a minute! While driving, try having mom or dad give you an activity and decide how long it would take (like watching a movie, drinking at a water fountain, or playing a soccer game).
