Recess Time!

Dear First Graders,

Mrs. Davis was so happy with the nice birthday banner you worked so hard to create! Way to fill a bucket!

Next week, we are celebrating Read Across America! A note went home today...

  • Monday: Cat in the Hat day. Wear your own hat!
  • Tuesday: Fox in Socks day. Wear your crazy socks!
  • Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday day. Wear mismatched clothes.
  • Thursday: Oh, the Places You'll Go day. Come dressed like what you want to be when you grow up.
  • Friday: The Lorax day. Wear a mustache! (Emma's Valentine would work well too!)

Parents, I am going to submit a scholastic order due March 9th for anyone looking for spring books or books for Easter baskets. You can order books directly by clicking on the scholastic icon to the right. If you would like a "catalog," send me an email or note and I can send one home. When your order comes in, I will send an email and we can set a day for you to pick up in the office or I can send home with your child in an envelope.

Happy Reading!

Welcome Back!

Dear First Graders,

I enjoyed hearing all about your week off! Make sure you get your Great Escape reading log back to me by February 25th to earn your free ticket!  There is no reading log for February, since your prize is free day at the Great Escape! Extra copies of the log are to the right.

Today we celebrated our one friend's birthday!  We all loved her hat she wore for the big day today.

Here are some shots during our Valentine's party.

Fantastic February

Dear Friends,

We have had a busy week!  From celebrating the 100th day of school...

To having a mystery reader on Wednesday and Thursday!

I really enjoyed watching as you shared your publish pieces with the parents and family that were able to come to our celebration! I continue to be impressed with your wonderful writing skills. Mr. DiCaprio tweeted about our celebration today: https://twitter.com/RosendaleES/status/697773638217547777

Chinese New Year!

Dear First Graders,

I loved hearing about all the fun facts you learned from our mystery reader about Chinese New Year!! We really loved getting our very own red envelopes!

Today we also had fun using our foot to measure different objects. Tell mom and dad why my desk was "smaller" then your desks even though they looked the same length! We are learning some good rules of measurement.

Have a great weekend!(I finally uploaded the Valentine box directions!)

Groundhog Day!

Dear First Graders,

I was surprised that most of you wanted the groundhog to not see his shadow so that spring would be on the way. I would like one good snowstorm to go sledding and build a snowman!

Most of us were very excited when we watched a news clip of the groundhog forecast!

If you are looking for the February reading calendar, there isn't one! Our Great Escape Reading challenge will be wrapping up this month. Instead of checking off days they read, record their minutes and lets make our goal of 6 hours! If your child has already read 6 hours, see if he/she can add to that. I will upload our newsletter tomorrow!

Bear Hugs,
