Math Madness

Dear First Graders,

You did a great job making numbers and comparing those numbers with your buddy!  Here are some action shots!

I am not going to be able to make it to BINGO night. So sad!  Have fun and I can't wait to hear about it.

Wacky Wednesay

Dear First Graders,

It was great getting back into the classroom with you all today.  I was sad to have missed our one friend's birthday, but he saved me a Star Wars themed cupcake!!! So cool.

We enjoyed a great concert from our 4th and 5th graders today. Here are some pictures.  Do you think you would like to play an instrument when you become a fourth and fifth graders? Which one?

Fantastic Friday

Dear Class,

I was very proud to come back today and read the great report Mrs. Isabella left!  She will be our guest teacher Monday and Tuesday while I'm at the district office hard at work developing math activities.

I loved hearing about the great book Madison's mom read to our class.

Happy Birthday to our friend who will be turning 7 tomorrow!

FYI for parents- we have now realized that we can use our accounts to buy snacks. Many kids are throwing out their lunch instead of eating it so they can buy ice-cream, chips, etc. I highly recommend logging into their account and checking their purchases as well as setting restrictions.  You can set it so they can only buy one snack a day and even set the days they can buy a snack. I have had a discussion with the class on this topic.

Posted is the Feb/Mar/Apr star helpers and a nice sheet on our Addition math facts plan for success. We have also been working on tally marks. Here is a fun tally matching game on line!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Box Tops for Rosendale!

Dear First Graders,

Our collection box came out great and we already have a nice start with our collection.

On Tuesday, we heard two great books from our mystery reader!

Our math test went home today.  Remember to celebrate all the great learning you have done and to fix the questions you missed. Have you used xtramath.org or practiced your math facts today!  We are getting super quick with our +0, +1 and doubles to 5.  Keep up the great job!

Happy Hat Day!

Dear First Graders,

Did you teach your parents any of the French words our mystery reader taught us!  We had two special guests come with our mystery reader all the way from France.  Emma's dad and grandparents joined our room Thursday to read a book and teach us a little about France.  Very neat!

Today was HAT DAY!!! Here are some pictures of us looking super cute! Are you following Principal DiCaprio on twitter?  He loves to post pictures and Rosendale updates.  His account is Rosendale ES.

Box Top Challenge

Dear First Graders,

Did you tell mom and dad about our box top challenge?  How about calling grandma and grandpa and asking them for help? The PTO has challenged the classes to see who can get the most boxtops by the end of January.  The willing class will get a pizza or breakfast party! Even better, all the money raised will go towards all the great things PTO does for our schools.

Happy Holidays

Dear First Graders,

We have had a great two days back from break!  It has been very frigid, so we have had to have inside recess.  Boo! Looks like things are going to "warm up" a bit, so don't forget to bring winter gear so you can play comfortably outside!

Posted to the right, is our January Newsletter.  Big push this month is going to be math facts! We are going to be working on fact fluency with +0, +1, +2 doubles to 10.  I highly recommend using xtramath.org 3X's a week (takes about 10-15 minutes tops) or using flashcards.  We are going to chart our improvements and make personal goals.

Here are some snapshots from our winter party!

Kindergarten Buddies!

Dear First Graders,

I am looking forward to getting together with Mrs. Schwan's class for another reading buddy activity!  You did a great job brainstorming signs of winter and reading a story to your buddy before the break!  Have you seen any signs of winter this week? Cora was so happy about the little bit of snow.  We went sledding and built a snow castle.  I can't wait to hear all about your break on Monday!
