Solid, Liquid or Gas??

Dear Scientists,

It was exciting talking about our first science unit that revolves around the properties of matter!  Our rain cloud experiment was a great way to begin to discover and learn. You can recreate this experiment at home: http://onelittleproject.com/shaving-cream-rain-clouds/

Here are some action shots...

I also liked learning more about your families and if you were the only, youngest, middle or oldest child!  (**Parents, this confused some of us. I think we ironed out most)

Parents... I am looking for a mystery reader the week of October 10 and 17th. If you are interested email me a day/time.

Sorting Hat

Dear Hogwarts Students,

It was exciting to find out what houses you were going to be in this year!  Thank-you Miss Sabourin for orchestrating all the details that help to bring the Sorting Hat to Rosendale!

Here is a video of us meeting the talking hat...  Sorting Hat

Here are some of us getting sorted into our houses!!

Have a wonderful weekend!  As our wellness wake up call reminded us today... get outside and PLAY!

Bucket Fillers!

Dear Bucket Fillers,

Today was a special day! We have been learning all about being kind, how our actions and words affect how others feel, and about our invisible buckets that we all carry.

Thanks Mrs. Young for our gorgeous class bucket!

During our activity today, I enjoyed seeing your faces light up when you read the kind words your friends had to say about you.  Tell mom and dad about our imaginary buckets and share your buckets from school today!

Keep filling those buckets!

Awake, Alert, Alive!

Dear First Graders,

Have you taught mom and dad any of our movement songs that help get our engines running just right for learning!

We are working very hard on the good habits readers have! I'll add a picture of our chart so we can share those strategies with you!

Here we are practicing some of those great habits!!

I can be respectful!

Dear First Graders,

I continue to be amazed at the great habits you have brought from kindergarten and into our first grade classroom. We will continue to work on taking turns by raising our hands and following directions.

This week, we focused 2 of our 4 "Bees"  I can be respectful and I can be responsible!

We learned a lot about each other through our share...

We also had a great time making new friends!

Over the weekend, I plan to sleep in and also work on our first home assignment - decorating an 8.5" X 11" piece of paper with photos, ticket stubs, pictures, etc. to help inspire my writing!  (we brought home a paper describing this in detail and is also on our blog- right side page called "first home assignment.")

Happy First Day!

Dear First Graders,

I had a blast today, but boy am I tired! I bet you are too.

      Here are some highlights...

Our principal, Mr. DiCaprio came to visit us!

We read the story, Chrysanthemum, and investigated our names.
Don't forget to ask your parents how your name came to be!

We read some really great books!

Allergy Alert

Dear First Graders,

A student in the class has a life-threatening allergy to peanuts and tree nuts. Below are the allergy rules for our class FOR SNACK TIME!
  • Please send your child’s snack in a separate container from his/her lunch bag. Students are not allowed to open lunch bags in the classroom.
  • All snacks, unless fruit or veggies, must have a label on them.  Students who bring snacks without a label will not be allowed to eat them in the classroom.  Mrs. Murphy and I will be checking snack every day.
  • I do have “emergency” snacks that are available as we become accustomed to the rules above. Beginning Monday, September 12th, students who do not follow the allergy protocol will be able to buy an approved nut free snack from the cafeteria.
  • Students are allowed to bring foods with the above ingredients for lunch. There is a separate area in the cafeteria that is safe for children with allergies.
We will discuss our classroom guidelines for birthday celebrations and go into more depth on Back to School Night, September 20th.

Please feel free to contact Mrs. Murphy (the school nurse) or I if you have any questions.

Thank you for your help keeping our classroom safe for everyone!
