Dear Friends,

We have had a busy week!  Here are some recaps:

Our mystery reader shared a Mo Willems' book most of us had not read before!

We have been practicing reading short and long vowel words. Our focus has been on the bully e and how it usually makes the vowel scream it's name!

Today, we joined Mrs. Maurantonio's class to learn about our human body! Tell mom and dad about all the cool facts we learned.

Monday, Monday

Dear First Graders,

It sounded like everyone enjoyed the weather during our three day weekend! We started our week celebrating our friends 7th birthday!

Calling all mystery readers! Time is running out to come share a favorite picture book with our class! Email me to schedule a day and time.

Shoe tying.... our new, nightly homework for those of us that do not know how to tie our shoes! Please practice with your child (there are great on line tutorials and books- Cora got princess tie your shoe book last summer and the book taught her!).  If your child is unable to tie their own shoes, I highly recommend shoes that do not need to be tied.

Happy Spring

Dear First Graders,

We ended our four day week on a high note! Here we are enjoying two stories read to us by our mystery reader!

Mrs. Rose and I continue to be amazed at your listening and computer skills. Most of us were able to finish our slides for the presentation we will be presenting... our simple machine game show for Mr. Smith's fourth grade class on Friday!  (Parents, I will take pictures and send home your child's work so you can see what they created).

On a personal note, I have shared the good news with our class that my family is in the process of buying a house right behind Birchwood Elementary. We are very excited to join the Nisky community. We are busy packing up our current house and moving into my parents house as we wait to close!

Happy Spring!
Enjoy your three day weekend!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Top of the morning to ya!

Boy did we have an exciting day with our visit from the Leprechaun. Did you have any sightings at home?

Show mom and dad how fluently you can read our Leprechaun poem!

Check out a short video of us coming into the room to discover the tricks the Leprechaun played on us! https://youtu.be/ychDwIS8Wq8

A little bit of everything...

Dear First Graders,

We have had a busy March thus far!

For Career Day, we had an assortment ranging from race card driver, baseball player, dancer, engineer, doctor, nurse, mommy, principal, police officer... the list continues!

We also had two Rosendale mom's come talk to us about the Smoothie Club that will be starting a little later this year. More information will be coming home. Sounds like an exciting way to get some healthy fruits and vegetables.

Today, we enjoyed a performance by a Chinese Acrobat!

Our one friend shared some Chinese writing during his Star Helper day earlier this week too!

We have also be working on our doubles 6-10!! We have a really fun game that we play. This will be coming home. You will need to make double fact cards (write 6+6, 7+7, 8+8, 9+9, 10+10 on little slips of paper and put in a hat. When it is your turn, draw a card say the double and place a marker on the square.)  It is a fun way to practice our doubles!

Wow we have been busy!

Dear First Graders,

I have been enjoying our Read Across America week in school!

Here we are with our wacky outfits!!

Parents, our March newsletter is posted to the right. Also, as of right now I have no mystery readers booked after Friday. E-mail me if your interested in reading to the class (maybe a St. Patrick's day book, spring story, or one of your favorite picture books!).
