China Day

Dear Third Graders,

Wow!  We had an exciting day full of learning, food tasting, crafts, and celebration.  Emma's mom came in and taught us more about China. She shared about growing up in Beijing. She also shared how America and China are alike and different.  Next, she taught us how to use chopsticks! Most of you are light years away from me! Emma's mom also brought a HUGE assortment of foods to try along with a few of our friends. I was impressed how everyone tried most of the foods! Delicious!

 Chopstick game!

Yummy!

Outfits and artifacts!  (Somehow I missed the gorgeous pillow my one friend brought in!  Kodak moment fail.

He made the Chinese Flag on his shirt and even looks like he should be performing in the Chinese Opera house!

   Dragon dancers
Chinese Newspaper!  Soooo cool.

Brushes used for writing... and a Chinese Singing Chicken Toy!

 Lantern

Wow, we had a packed day!  I am looking forward to beautification day tomorrow!

Bear Hugs,

Career Day

Dear Third Graders,

I was sad to miss out on Career Day this year, but our guest teacher was able to get some great pictures of our friends in costume!  We even had a spy show up on Monday, after missing Friday due to illness.  I was impressed with all your choices and outfits!  I was also very proud of the amazing report we got back from our guest teacher. Sounds like you had a wonderful day!

Earlier last week, we had our ELA Dance Party for all the hard work we have done this year! We also celebrated a friend's birthday!

Rock Stars

Dear Third Graders,

I couldn't be more proud of what a wonderful job you did trying your best and persevering during our state testing. We enjoyed a nice treat sent in by Jack's mom!  We also had some extra mints curtesy of Chase.

March Madness

Dear Third Graders,

Boy we have been busy this March.  We celebrated one of our friend's birthdays.  He brought in a yummy treat and also sent us home with a goodie bag!

We also read The Luckiest Leprechaun: A Tail-Wagging Tale of Friendship by Justine Korman. This helped to inspire us to write about "Who is worth more than gold" to us! These came out great and I can't wait for you to take them home.

Mrs. Maciag also taught us about Sugaring. She shared the process she took from tapping trees to boiling the sap into maple syrup.

We had a great visit from author Grace Lin. She shared with us the process a book goes through from ideas to what you buy at the store! It was incredible to see how many different people and professions work on helping a book become published.

We got a lesson on how to make a dog!

Then we headed back to the classroom and gave it a try.  We did a great job!

Crazy hair and OObleck!

Dear Third Graders,

This week was a blast.  I was very impressed with your crazy hair on Thursday!  Here are some of the styles...

We have been investigating solids, liquids, and gases during science.  This week, our challenge was to determine if Oobleck was a solid or a liquid! Here are some action shots. To find out more about our investigations and how to make at home, see this great site: Savvy With Science.  As you can see, we are not afraid to get a little messy!

I can't wait to see what next week has in store for us!
