Fun Friday

Dear First Graders,

We had a busy week!  We celebrated two more summer birthdays!

We had a mystery reader and started our Junior Achievement program. We learned all about communities and how they are the same and different. Talk with mom and dad about what makes Nisky special.  Ask an adult what community he/she grew up in and how it is the same and different from Niskayuna!

We also acted like scientists and made some observations of our Spring Tree.  We noticed some similarities and difference between our tree today and that from Winter and Fall.

We are winding down on our mystery readers for the year!

We have begun celebrating summer birthday's! We have a lot of friends that will be turning one year older in July and August!  Here is one of our friends!

This seemed to be an all time favorite.  Presented by our PTO!

Beautification Day

Dear First Graders,

We kicked Friday off with a birthday celebration!  Happy Birthday Friend!

Beautification Day was a great way to end our week! We have been learning about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle to limit the amount of waste in our daily lives!

Our planting crew!!

We started the day at the compost station where we learned about how worms are great decomposers! I was shocked to learn about how much food waste we have in the U.S.!

We then spent some time with Mrs. Giagni, who brought a few of her chicks for us to meet. We learned a lot about what they eat, how they eat, their eggs, and that a hen is born with over 3,000 yolks inside her!!  We all got a chance to pet one of the hens at the end too!

We ended our day planting a flower, mulching and watering. Whew... we were busy.

Reading Incentive Celebration!

Dear First Graders,

I am in awe of how wonderful each and everyone one of you did in our Human Body Reading Incentive! Our goal was for everyone to increase their personal amount of reading at home and I think you all accomplished that!  Just because we are done with the incentive doesn't mean you should give up on the great habits and reading you have been doing at home. Keep it going through the summer and beyond!

We read for a total of: 10,023 minutes
That's an average of 417 minutes per kid!!
WOW!

Egg-tastic Day!

Dear First Graders,

We started the week off with a birthday celebration!!

Did you tell you family that our chick eggs have arrived!  Today, you did a great job observing our 18 eggs that went into our incubator.

We also read enough minutes to make the bus to the finish line! We will have a little classroom celebration on Wednesday.  Great reading!!

Publishing Party

Dear First Graders,

I hope you had a wonderful week off! My girls and I did lots of trips to the playgrounds, outside clean up, and even read some books in our tree house! I have a feeling we will be moving that bus right along when we get back!

I am so proud of your hard work during our last persuasive writing unit. I had a chance to do some writing for our next unit, small moments. I did some brainstorming of the last few weeks and times that were fun, sad, funny, or unusual. I find these make the most captivating stories. Do you remember when I fell out of the chair before break?!?! I turned it into a small moment. I think it came out really good. I can't wait to share it with you. I also came up with some great ideas I can turn into small moments from  over the break... like the first time my oldest heard the ice cream truck, Cora getting her training wheels taken off her bike, Hazel's haircut (I think next time I need earplugs!), or maybe my dog Cleia meeting her new best friend Bruce. Don't forget to fill out your idea sheet at home by Wednesday (I'll attach a copy to the right).

I will also be picking up or chick eggs during lunch on Monday!! WOW! Fun times are in store. This week, we will delve into life cycles.

Friday, we will have our Beautification Day at Rosendale! Keep your fingers crossed for great weather. Our planting time is 1:40-2:00 if you want to bring your work gloves and get dirty with us!

Mystery reader time is running out...
email if you want to schedule a time!

Dear First Graders,

I enjoyed seeing all those who dressed in the career outfits!

We also enjoyed a book from a mystery reader!

Hope you enjoyed the gorgeous weekend!
