Hello Scientists,

Step 1: Ask a Question
What will happen to an egg when it is dropped on a basketball?

Step 2: Make a Hypothesis

Step 3: Conduct our Experiment!

Step 4: Collect your Data

Step 5: Share...
Did you tell someone at home what happened?

We also did a nice job coming up with addition stories with a buddy! This would be a fun thing to try at home as well.

An amazing class

Dear First Graders,

I continue to be amazed at our Buzz worthy behavior and good habits we are forming. Today, we discussed our Caught Being Good program at Rosendale and how we strive to have 4 Bee days everyday! We may earn a Caught slip on a particular day, but it is not going to be everyday and that does not mean we didn't have a great day.  Our Bee worthy behavior affects how our friends feel and allow us to become better learners. Keep up the great work!

Basketball entertainer, Ilze Luneau (http://www.basketballfamily.com) came to visit our school and teach us to not give up on our dreams!

Smoothie Club

Dear First Graders,

It was nice to ease back into a week of school with a smoothie packed with wild blueberries, bananas and mint to help our brains wake up! Many of us loved the taste test and chose to try a larger sample! Yum! Yum!

Here are some action shots of us sorting our buttons by properties... size, shape, color, texture.

It was great seeing so many of you at the Pizza Night last week!

I hope you enjoyed sharing your Friday Letters with your family over the weekend. Please remember to send those back! We will be compiling all of our Friday Letters into a nice book of memories at the end of the year.  Feel free to have grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, or even a big brother or sister write back!

Solid, Liquid or Gas??

Dear Scientists,

It was exciting talking about our first science unit that revolves around the properties of matter!  Our rain cloud experiment was a great way to begin to discover and learn. You can recreate this experiment at home: http://onelittleproject.com/shaving-cream-rain-clouds/

Here are some action shots...

I also liked learning more about your families and if you were the only, youngest, middle or oldest child!  (**Parents, this confused some of us. I think we ironed out most)

Parents... I am looking for a mystery reader the week of October 10 and 17th. If you are interested email me a day/time.

Sorting Hat

Dear Hogwarts Students,

It was exciting to find out what houses you were going to be in this year!  Thank-you Miss Sabourin for orchestrating all the details that help to bring the Sorting Hat to Rosendale!

Here is a video of us meeting the talking hat...  Sorting Hat

Here are some of us getting sorted into our houses!!

Have a wonderful weekend!  As our wellness wake up call reminded us today... get outside and PLAY!

Bucket Fillers!

Dear Bucket Fillers,

Today was a special day! We have been learning all about being kind, how our actions and words affect how others feel, and about our invisible buckets that we all carry.

Thanks Mrs. Young for our gorgeous class bucket!

During our activity today, I enjoyed seeing your faces light up when you read the kind words your friends had to say about you.  Tell mom and dad about our imaginary buckets and share your buckets from school today!

Keep filling those buckets!

Awake, Alert, Alive!

Dear First Graders,

Have you taught mom and dad any of our movement songs that help get our engines running just right for learning!

We are working very hard on the good habits readers have! I'll add a picture of our chart so we can share those strategies with you!

Here we are practicing some of those great habits!!
