I can be respectful!

Dear First Graders,

I continue to be amazed at the great habits you have brought from kindergarten and into our first grade classroom. We will continue to work on taking turns by raising our hands and following directions.

This week, we focused 2 of our 4 "Bees"  I can be respectful and I can be responsible!

We learned a lot about each other through our share...

We also had a great time making new friends!

Over the weekend, I plan to sleep in and also work on our first home assignment - decorating an 8.5" X 11" piece of paper with photos, ticket stubs, pictures, etc. to help inspire my writing!  (we brought home a paper describing this in detail and is also on our blog- right side page called "first home assignment.")

Happy First Day!

Dear First Graders,

I had a blast today, but boy am I tired! I bet you are too.

      Here are some highlights...

Our principal, Mr. DiCaprio came to visit us!

We read the story, Chrysanthemum, and investigated our names.
Don't forget to ask your parents how your name came to be!

We read some really great books!

Allergy Alert

Dear First Graders,

A student in the class has a life-threatening allergy to peanuts and tree nuts. Below are the allergy rules for our class FOR SNACK TIME!
  • Please send your child’s snack in a separate container from his/her lunch bag. Students are not allowed to open lunch bags in the classroom.
  • All snacks, unless fruit or veggies, must have a label on them.  Students who bring snacks without a label will not be allowed to eat them in the classroom.  Mrs. Murphy and I will be checking snack every day.
  • I do have “emergency” snacks that are available as we become accustomed to the rules above. Beginning Monday, September 12th, students who do not follow the allergy protocol will be able to buy an approved nut free snack from the cafeteria.
  • Students are allowed to bring foods with the above ingredients for lunch. There is a separate area in the cafeteria that is safe for children with allergies.
We will discuss our classroom guidelines for birthday celebrations and go into more depth on Back to School Night, September 20th.

Please feel free to contact Mrs. Murphy (the school nurse) or I if you have any questions.

Thank you for your help keeping our classroom safe for everyone!

August Meet and Greet

Dear Friends,

It was very nice to see so many of you today! If you were not able to stop by, we will have lots of time to get to know each other this school year.

      A few action shots....

 FIRST DAY TIPS....

  • Try to send two snacks in case your child has a tough time eating breakfast and may be super hungry before lunch. CLEARLY mark snacks... sometimes we get confused between our lunch and our snack. I suggest not putting snacks in their lunch bag.
  • Make sure you discuss what your child their lunch plans (buy? bring?). If he/she is buying, discuss what it is he/she is going to order in the morning.
  • Discuss where and what bus your child will be taking. (I have not received the bus list as of today.)
  • Be ready to HAVE FUN!  Remember, we will have music, a scavenger hunt, a prize at the end of the day, and Mrs. Young (Mrs. Hallenbeck friends should know her well).

Classroom Visit

Dear First Graders,

Summer is slipping by and September will be here before you know it. We have so many fun things to look forward to this year.

I would love for you to drop in August 31st from 2-3 to see me and, hopefully, our classroom will be all set up! This is something special that I do and the school will not be open.  You can come into my room through the outside door that I will leave open (if looking at the main entrance, it is 3 doors to the left). The kids can find their desk, drop off supplies or summer library books to help lighten their load on the first day. If you can't make it, don't worry!!  We will be doing lots of fun activities the first day so that the kids will get comfortable with myself and the classroom.

Summer Days

Dear Friends,

I hope you all have been enjoying the summer and staying cool!  I've seen some of you, both last years class and this years, at River Road Summer Camp when I drop off my oldest, Cora. If I do not recognize or see you, please jump up and say hi!

I posted our classroom supply list and another copy of the Rosendale Summer Reading Challenge in case you misplace your copy (see side bar to the right).

I will use this page and email to keep you posted about our upcoming school year. I've been busy with a few projects for September.
Hazel (will be 2 July 31st!)  Cora (5 1/2- starting Kindergarten this fall!)
